I really didn't have star trails in mind when we came on this night, since there was a nearly full moon. Bev said "Why not try some?" so I did. The red clouds are in the light of Kagman. The right-hand edge of the photo must be almost due east, since that's the direction in which the stars will "travel" in a straight line. In the winter, the paths slant to the south. As you approach either pole (here the north star would be a little to the left from the left edge of the photo), the path becomes more and more circular. I'm glad Bev suggested it, since I think it turned out kinda cool.
