BEV AND TANKA MAN ABOARD SAMPAN
The boat men were very careful to make sure that there were the same number of people on each side of the boat (It was just Bev and I on this boat, but a later one we got on was much more full). It made me wonder just how stable these things might be (not).
By the way, I did read in one book that the name "Tanka" is now considered derogatory, with the preference now being "boat people." It's difficult for me, however, to see why they would prefer to shuck the historical cultural name, so I am sticking with Tanka, and I hope that it will not offend anyone (anyone offended, please let me know and maybe I'll reconsider).
