  • Launched in 1863, the STAR OF INDIA is the oldest iron-hulled merchant ship afloat. She has circumnavigated the globe 21 times, and has been used in such varied practices as hauling cargo to and from India, carrying passengers from England to New Zealand, and delivering fish from Alaska to the California. She first sailed 5 days prior to Abe Lincoln's Gettysburg address, and she still sails the ocean every November.

  • Venders line the sidewalk. This one recycles wine bottles by melting them until they can be flattened, and then making nifty little trays out of them. Thanks for mine, Olga!<br />

Seriously, this does make a nice, attractive, useful, and unique conversation piece. And, if you are needing to think about something to get for someone, it is highly likely that this is something he or she does not already have. AND, it's a way to encourage recycling with class.

  • Looking back at San Diego as we approach Coronado. This is actually a vertical panorama. I you would like to see detail, click on the photo, and then click on the "O" which appears at the top center of your screen. DO NOT CLICK ON THE ENLARGED PHOTO UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO RETURN TO THIS SCREEN. You will have a scroll bar to your right and at the bottom of your screen. These will be necessary, because the full-size photo will take up several of your screens. When you are ready to return here, just click on the full-size photo and it will clear.

  • The 1958 movie SOME LIKE IT HOT was filmed here. Also, according to a plaque, "THE HOTEL HAS HOSTED SEVERAL PRESIDENTS..." Since it doesn't specify what they were president of, it may mean presidents of the local chess club, but I assume that it means presidents of the U.S. It is definitely a very stately hotel (and would be a great place for a chess tournament, by the way).
