  • A pre-sunrise meeting for a dawn flight.
  • Nathan checks everything out prior to take off.
  • I'm in the back seat. You won't be able to hear any of the conversation (we had on noise-cancelling headsets with microphones so that we could talk to each other easily), but you will get to see Ron's job of lifting us off!<br />

  • The Grotto (to your right) and Bird Island (in the distance, above the center of the photo).
  • Bird Island (you can recognize from the previous photo). CIA Hill to your left. See the tiny little thing sticking up on CIA Hill?
  • That odd looking suction cup thing (to the right of center) on CIA Hill is an old satellite radar which the CIA at one time manned for tracking satellites from the communist block. It is now a huge chunk of rusting metal. Notice the stair-step appearance of CIA Hill. I assume that comes about because the island has been submerged to various levels at different times in prehistory. While it started out as a volcano, the exposed parts of Saipan are basically ancient coral reef. The island has been submerged for millennia, then exposed for millenia, then submerged again, etc., allowing for successive growth periods.
