REALLY HIDDEN BEACH, OR THE REAL CROCODILE BEACH?

Rather overgrown and exhausting hike, but a great time with great people.

  • Wild passionfruit (Passiflora foetida). It's my understanding that these are not edible, as are the cultivated ones. It's kinda cool how they fold up a little "basket" over the developing fruit.<br />

09/07/2020 Addendum: These are indeed edible. In fact, after learning that, I have eaten a few. They are not as tasty as the cultivated varieties, but they definitely do have the unmistakable tang of passion fruit.
  • I'm actually not sure what this place is called. But I prefer to not have to figure out how to get out of that hole!
  • This location is at the end of the road you get to when you drive past Kalabera Cave (headed south) and then you turn left at the dead end intersection south of there (turning right would take you up toward the old CIA Satellite Dish).
  • Step right over!

  • Through the brambles....
  • South of our last location.

  • Victoria caught a fish!
  • Seeing how we didn't have enough fish for dinner, however, she did let it go.
  • I've been told that this is Crocodile "Beach" and that the place near Knigfisher Golf Course is Hidden Beach. However, many people call the one down by Kingfisher Crocodile (it has a formation very similar to the crocodile snout you see here) and this one "Really Hidden Beach" because it is so much more difficult to get to.
  • Back through the brambles in search of the car..
  • Then a drive up to the CIA tower. This was a satellite tracking post toward the end of the Cold War.
  • About 100 feet or so from the CIA Tower is one of the most spectacular views on Saipan.
