WHALES!

We were at El Toro (Valley of Dragons). I do not know what kind of whales these were. They were considerably off shore, so we could not see them well, but I am reasonably sure they were not dolphins. Spinner dolphins (who frequent our waters) generally jump and spin in the air, which these were definitely not doing.

  • Not sure whose boat this is, but also if you compare the fin size with the boat, I think you will agree that these are larger than dolphins.
  • I have attended talks by folks who study cetaceans, and have heard that we actually have quite a few different species of whales around here. I have seen spinner dolphins, but this is the first time I have seen any other type of whale here.

Yes, they were whales....that's why I started yelling "whales! Whales! Whales" instead of "Dolphins, Dolphins, Dolphins!" like I did last weeks.
