BACK OF THE CAVE
Years ago when I was in here, this room of the cave was pretty much pitch dark. The opening now allowing the light in had large rocks, which (I was told) had been piled there by U.S. service men to wall off the cave. A few years ago some people I guided to this cave wanted to open it up. I talked them out of doing so on the trip I took with them, but maybe they returned and opened it up a bit? Anyhow, this photo is a composite of 14 photos of different exposures blended together "by hand" in Photoshop (sort of like using "high dynamic range," but done with full control using Photoshop layers. The individual exposures ranged from 8 minutes down to 1/60 second.
The bright spots of light actually did not appear until I was finished with the long exposures (which was fine, because that part of the photo is what the shorter exposures are taken for). It was quite cool to see the changes in lighting while I was there, from about 12:30 to about 2:45 PM.
The glass in the foreground includes some Japanese sake bottles, likely from WW II. In this cave are also the remains of an old camp stove and pot.
