JUNE 29: IN SEARCH OF THE ELUSIVE WINGED YAM, AND SABANETA 3D

Air potato? Winged yam? Edible? A friend of mine posted on Facebook about an air yam plant he found in Hawaii. As I tried to learn more about them on Youtube, I remembered seeing something quite similar on hikes at Sabaneta. So, I went looking, to get some photos and confirm whether or not these were indeed air yams. Also, thanks to some postings from another Facebook friend in Japan, my interest in stereoscopic 3D photos was rekindled (I used to do some way back in the time of 35mm slides).

Scroll down for photos, or if you see a little triangle to your right you can click it for a slide show. Read the caption for the first 3D photo, and then use the same technique for all of them.

    WINGED YAM?

Thanks to John Fraser for posting on Facebook about air yams. After watching the following video, I'm pretty sure that's what these are, but I'm not sure that these are the edible ones (even if so, I guess it's the root that most people eat, so I may plant some and see what happens).

    WINGED YAM (?) CUT OPEN

It does look like a raw yam on the inside. Apparently (if I'm correct about what this is), it is a true yam.

  • They are hanging in the foliage, although it seems that the vine they grew from has dried and withered. None of the leaves you see are from the bearing vine.

  • Here some are hanging above my head. The leaves you see beneath them are from the same vine, but are so dried that I can't really tell anything about them.

Cross your eyes to make 3 pictures out of these 2. Pay attention to the center photo. As it focuses, see if you can see a very striking 3D!

If you are having difficulty, this seems to me to be the easiest one here. As you cross your eyes, let your attention go deep into the cave as you pretty much ignore the stuff in the lower foreground.

If you are interested in the 3D and can't get it, please feel free to email me at optimimagery@gmail.com
