AN OLD FART ON AN OLD STRUCTURE
Spain sold the CNMI to Germany in 1898, so it became a part of the "German Empire." In 1904 the German administrator for Saipan (George Fritz) built a small house for his home at the base of this hill. He then built this concrete stairway to the top of the hill, where he built a lookout tower. According to an interpretive sign here, this stairway is the "oldest surviving historic structure on the island of Saipan."
