APRIL 22, 2011: RETURN TO THE VALLEY OF THE DRAGONS!

Walk with me through the Valley of the Dragons!

It's hard for me to believe that I have lived here this long and, until a few weeks ago, did not know that this place existed. Bev and I found the trail and descended down to this coastline a few weeks ago (see http://www.optimimagery.com/CNMI-ON-LAND/SAIPAN/MARCH-27-2011-NORTH-OF-WING/16374293_8a6Ky if you are interested). When Bev and I went, we stayed to the north, and fairly quickly took refuge in the shade cast from some cliffs at the north end.

For this album, I started out at the same blow hole where Bev and I went to, but then slowly made my way a little bit further south.

I still have not found a name for this place on any map. Any of you locals know?

If you turn up your sound volume and listen in stereo, I think you will agree that no name would be any better than THE VALLEY OF THE DRAGONS!

This is near the same blow hole to which Bev and I trekked a few weeks ago.
Make sure that your sound is turned up. I hope you have STEREO!
For those of you who have difficulty with the videos loading (slow net connection), once you click the triangle above, then click on "web" or "Ipod/DVD" above the new window. That will reduce the resolution considerably, which will allow the video to load much faster (but will also greatly reduce the picture quality). If you can allow the download in full HD, you will have the best picture. The SOUND, however (which I think is the most important part of these videos) should be the same either way.

 • Here, we start by looking at some puddles a few feet from the blow hole. Watch as the bubbles form from air passing through the extremely porous rock. Next, see my shirt take flight when the air blasts out of the blow hole vent (Marsha, do you recognize the shirt?).
 • Now come wander with me through the Magical Land of Snoring Dragons!
 • Totally different type of action just a little further south. See especially the "snort" 1 minute and 6 seconds in.
 • One last set of views before we decide to let sleeping dragons lie.
