  • Monitor lizard (Varanus indicus). It is a rare and lucky day when I see one of these guys! He was probably a little over 2 feet long. Saipan supposedly has some up to 5 feet long, but I have never seen one that size.

  • Here you can see some tourists standing at the public Bird Island Overlook, where we were when we started this album.
  • I love the eyes of these guys, and the "lights" on the tips of their antennae. After this shot, I went back home and slept the night. The next day I rose early and returned to the public overlook for the sunrise, as you will see in the next few photos.

  • The blues of the water look almost other-worldly when contrasted against the golden hues of the sky.
  • Then, as the sun peaks through spaces in the broken clouds, it dramatically highlights Bird Island.
