  • EXTREME calm this day. Usually there are about 5 spouting horns shooting off along this stretch. This day there was one which would spew a little every few minutes. I've never seen it that calm down here. Notice the dive boat off the far point. That's Managaha you see on the horizon. We are looking south. • Now to the north.
  • There are several small "caves" in the cliff (OK, they don't really go back far enough to call them "caves," but they go back to far to just call them "holes."). This is the most accessible one.

  • If you use the Map This feature above, you will likely need to back off on the zoom (because all these points are too close together for the map to give that much detail).

  • Sunset. Time to get ready for the nocturne shot.
  • I don't feel like this is one of my best nocturnes. I think that more wave action will help, so I need to return when the waves are up and going. The problem with nocturnes, though: It takes hours to get the feedback. This one has a base exposure of 30 minutes, with the camera set for long exposure noise reduction (which means that it takes an hour from the time the shutter is tripped until one can take the next shot). There are 3 30-minute shots blended together here to reduce grain noise. In addition, there are 2 12-minute shots and 2 5-minute shots blended in to improve the exposure range. All in all, I was taking the photos which are included here from about 7:00 PM to about midnight. I'm a little disappointed with this result, but it's a fun learning process.<br />
