• This spider web was beneath the platform with the round holes. I liked how the sun shining through illuminated the web in a dash pattern.

 • Well, as the book says, time to go Bye Bye!
 • Guam airport. I was trying to capture the mood after flying for about 24 hours, only to be told that the plane to take us to Saipan had been broken, was supposed to be fixed, but probably was still broken (but nobody here knew for sure). This was United Airlines, by the way.

I was told that if the plane were fixed and they made a flight, I would miss it if I left the airport. So, after arriving on Guam at around midnight (my flight out was supposed to have been somewhere around 12:15 AM), I had waited until about 11:00 AM or so prior to taking this photo -- still being told that we would likely know any time whether or not the plane was fixed (it was not).

Finally I was told that they would put me up for the night. Before I left, the agent told me that there would be a flight at 7 AM the next morning. She could not give me a ticket because the flight had been arranged specially with a jet because the usual turboprop plane was down (so the flight was not officially on the schedule yet). However, she said "I assure you that you will have a seat on that plane." Well, guess what -- 5 AM the next day at the airport I'm told I'm on standby and won't know whether or not I have a seat until all the passengers check in. I was standby number 12 (but they would not tell me that until afterward), and they were able to give seats up to standby number 7 or so. Another flight was set to depart at 7 PM, and the agent issued me a ticket for that. I was one of the lucky ones, though: Some of the other folks who had tickets for the 7 PM flight were bumped from that one, too, and had to wait until the next morning!

I was even bumped up to business class on that 7 PM flight. Of course, on a jet the flight from Guam to Saipan is all of 20 minutes, with no beverage service regardless which cabin you are in.....
