• Enjoying our veranda.
• Margerie Glacier is the one at the end of the bay. Only 200 years ago, this glacier filled the entire 60 miles that our boat has just cruised over. It is now "stable," that is, neither advancing nor receding. I've got to admit that I was greatly hoping for this fog to reveal more of the glacier.
• And voila! The fog shifted and lifted a bit. You are looking at a snow and rock (glacier) cliff which extends straight up 250 feet. It also extends straight down into the water to a depth of 100 feet. If you were to head to the top end of this glacier, you would have a 21-mile journey over the ice to get there.
• 18-photo panorama. If you want to look at details, hover your cursor over the picture and click "Original" on the pop-out menu. Give a little time to load. Use the sliders (scroll bars) at the right and bottom of your screen to navigate (if you click on the original-size photo, you will come back to the album view you are starting with).
The face of Margerie Glacier is one mile across.
• The pilot allowed us to gawk for a long time as he very slowly and gently turned the Oosterdam around, pretty much on a dime.
There had been a small earthquake the night before (believe it or not, many people on the boat, including Bev, felt it). The dense "platform" of ice you see in the water adjacent to the cliff is what fell off during the quake. Apparently not much current here.

• 5-photo panorama (top to bottom). You can get a close-up view, if you would like, by following the same procedure listed in photo number 24.

• THIS shot I was pretty happy with.
• The small vessel in the fog gives a little size perspective.

At 3.5 minutes, a little longer than most videos I post (I try to keep them under 3 minutes). But hey, it was REALLY HARD to even consider setting the camera down!
• Heading back south (Margerie Glacier in the distance, over our stern). A moment I've dreamed about for many, many years. And it was every bit as spectacular as I ever expected it to be.
• Who would have thought that watching a glacier could work up such an apetite?!
• Another longer-than-usual video (again, at 3.5 minutes). But the disembarking probably took about 30 minutes in real life. And then, of course, I had to get Dennis and Bev's commentary afterward.
• See sea otter?
• That gets us out of Glacier Bay. Join us NEXT as we arrive at Seward and make our way to Anchorage!
