  • See the little blue-white plants in the foreground? Those are Indian Pipes (also called Ghost Pipes or Ghost Plants - Monotropa uniflora).  They are one of my favorite plants. While they are Angiosperms (typical, leafy, flowering plants ) they are devoid of chlorophyll, so they have to get their energy chemically (i.e., not from photosynthesis). They are parasitic on certain types of fungi which live on and in the roots of certain trees.
