DJI Mavic Air drone-generated 180-degree panorama.
May be my favorite kind of tree. Larch trees welcome the changing seasons by grandstanding with gorgeous fall colors. Because they usually thrive in patches within forests of their evergreen coniferous cousins, their almost flame-like Autumn brilliance contrasts with the constant greens of the spruce, pines, and cedars. Larches are also important indicator species: As a forest begins to succumb to environmental degradation, the larches are often the first ones to go, acting like the proverbial "canary in a coal mine" to warn of future ecological calamity -- hopefully before it is too late.
If you find yourself in the middle of a larch patch linger, relax, and breathe deeply. According to those who study metaphysics and ancient wisdom, the larch signifies rest, recovery, connection, and rejuvenation. It is said that the larch reminds us how to see with our heart.
