OCTOBER 13, 2021: SLATE PEAK, WA
The path up Slate Peak is the highest maintained road in Washington State. To folks from Colorado, California, and other more southern mountainous states, 7,488 feet may not sound like much, but keep in mind that the alpine timberline in Colorado is somewhere around 10,000 feet (give or take, depending on exact location). In Washington, it is closer to 5,000 - 6,000 feet. So, a 7,000-foot pathway in Washington can have vistas similar to an 11,000 foot one in Colorado.
