  • Actually, I think this is the highest point I got to. So, of course, I HAD to take one more photo before heading back down!<br />
<br />
Beneath the waters of Montgomery Reservoir are the ruins of the city of Montgomery, a city founded in 1861 which included 150 cabins, 5 saw mills, 3 hotels, and the largest dance hall in the region.
  • Any of you who look at my photos likely know that I have a thing for old, dead trees.

  • We are walking back to our car. See the car in front of Bev? That's NOT ours, but it is in the camp site that my parents and I used to camp in back when I was a lad in High School. Lots of nice memories from here.
  • Breckenridge: My how you've changed since my high school years!
  • Breckenridge brewery. Nice food and beer. A busy, "happening" place.<br />

  • East of Denver near I-70. The Georgetown Loop narrow guage Railway first ran in 1884. It was abandoned in 1938 because the ease of making the trip in automobiles rendered the train basically useless. <br />
<br />
History-minded folks started obtaining rights and rebuilding the track in the 1970's. In 1984 the entire route was open for tourists to re-live the "old days."<br />

  • There's something about a train.....
  • North of Boulder, CO: A lone praire dog looks toward a lone fix-er-upper "little house on the prairie."
  • Downtown Boulder, Colorado is a pretty cool place. Nice "walking mall" type of town, with great public art. VERY busy place, and parking is not easy (but it's worth it).
  • Lots of the sculptures are very dynamic-looking, like the lady on the swing in the last photo, and this cougar.
  • Artsy play area.
  • More of that dynamic-looking art.
  • I truly enjoy a good marimba band. I guess these are not really marimbas, since they don't have the resonators under the bars. However, these xylophone players were quite entertaining and excellent.
  • Antica Roma Cucina e Piazza on Pearl Street. One of the best meals we had on our trip. Definitely not fast food, but VERY good food!<br />

  • And THAT gets us to the highest National Park in the 48 states. More on that in our NEXT gallery!
