• Silently the morning mist
is lying on the water:
Captive moonlight, waiting for the dawn.
 • Softly, like a baby's breath....
a breeze begins to whisper.
The sun is coming, quick, you must be gone.
 • Smiling like a superstar
The morning comes in singing:
The promise of another sunny day.....

.....From the song "SUMMER," by John Denver

Well, I guess the sun was not quite promised at the point where I took this photo, though!
 • Zac is a big fan of farmer's markets (he has been the coordinator for one in Chelan for some time). Here he is looking around the Kamloops Farmer's Market.

 • Here is Bri's favorite way to look at places where people tend to gather.

 • Bev, Bri, and Zac patiently wait for me on the corner across the street.
 • Well, at least ZAC patiently waited for me! Thanks, Zac.
 • This cool swimming hole is in Bromley Rock Provincial Park.

 • Gold was discovered in Hedley, British Columbia, in 1897. By the year 1900, the city had more than 1,000 residents, 5 hotels, and a huge stamp mill (the ruins of which you will see in the following photos). More than 1.5 million ounces of gold and 4 million pounds of copper were mined here prior to 1957. Population now: About 350.
 • Zac looks closely at a gold separator wheel.
 • Ruins of the old stamp mill. According to a local we talked to, the last mine (named the Mascot Mine, which actually is 5,000 feet above Hedley in the mountains) closed in 1957 due to a worker's strike. There was enough ore piled up here that the stamp mill ran for another year. Apparently the quality of the ore was not sufficient for the owners to feel like meeting the workers' demands would allow continued profit from running the mine and stamp mill.
 • The Mascot Mine (way up in the mountains) has recently opened as a tourist attraction (apparently of high repute), but we were not aware of it when we were there. We may not have gone to it anyway, since we were of the mind-set that it was time to get back home (and we had several more miles to go).
 • According to Wikipedia, a 1987 movie called MALONE starring Burt Reynolds, Lauren Hutton, and Cliff Robertson (no relation to me, as far as I know) was filmed here in Hedley. Even with these stars, it must not have been much of a popular movie. I can't even find it on Netflix. I wonder if most of the folks in Hedley saw it. Have any of you ever heard of it? Has anyone seen it? If so, was at any good?

 • Wooden water pipes always fascinate me.
 • There was a sign along the highway which said "Ice Cream Parlor" and pointed up a town street. We were hungry for the frozen confection, so we took the "exit." No ice cream parlor, but we did see this rather interesting place. The owner (who is also the local I mentioned earlier) invited us in to look around.
