  • We liked this mural. It was across the street from where we decided to eat.
  • We ate at a rather odd local restaurant. Here Bri and Bev stack the jellies. Can they put any more on the stack?
  • Wow! Better get a photo before it topples! Maybe this is the shot just before the jelly rolls.....<br /> <br /> The stackable jellies were the highlight of this restaurant, actually. If I could remember the name of this place, I would mention it and recommend that you not bother, if you find yourself in Kelowna. There is an Italian restaurant above, but we did not realize that the sign for it meant upstairs and evenings only (must be the language: Maybe we can't read Canadian). This was more like sandwiches and egg dishes. Not terrible, but not noteworthy. Two stars, I guess.

  • Bev and Bri investigate the seeds of a Devil's Club Plant. Devil's Clubs grow primarily in old growth forests. They are a bit of an indicator species, being one of the first to die out from development or other disturbances. I have read that EVERY part of the Devil's Club, including the stems, the leaves, the roots, and the seeds have thorns.
  • Here you can see the thorns on the stems. Look closely and you can see them on the undersides of the leaves. also. It may be pushing it a bit to call the short extensions off the seeds "thorns." Did they feel thorny, Bri or Bev? Devil's Club is closely related to American Ginseng, and preparations are sold as "Alaskan Ginseng."
  • Jim, you mention sometimes how you remember seeing Zac's reaction to stinging nettle in New Mexico (years ago). Well, he wanted me to make sure and get this and the next photo, so you can see how he reacts to it NOW.....
  • He finds it to be a yummy salad green! How he can do this without being stung, I'm not sure. It is supposed to be an extremely nutritious green, however.
