  • After our day at Schwangau, upon returning to Fussen by bus, we found a charming village to stroll as night fell.
  • Fussen is the highest town in Bavaria, at 808m (2,651 ft) above sea level (I would have suspected much higher). It is home to the Hohes Schloss (high castle), the tower of which is visible in this shot. Hohes Schloss is one of the best-preserved late Gothic castle complexes. It presently houses a branch gallery of the Bavarian State Collections of Paintings, which focuses on Gothic and Renaissance art.
  • Many scenes from THE GREAT ESCAPE, including Steve McQueen's daring motorcycle stunts, were filmed in and around Fussen. I liked the "street lights" shining up from in the sidewalk, which allows illumination here of Bev and Bri performing a daring stunt of their own. Or maybe they were just daring me to take their picture?
  • Each time I look at this photo I think "That MUST be a set of props for a play. This CAN'T be a real place!" But I was there. I guess this brings home Shakespeare's statement about all the world being a stage.
  • A quaint church.
  • Dinner time! I'll have to defer to Bri and Bev to remind me what we had to eat. The blue bottle is mineral water. The red is German wine. To the right is "non-gas" water, as they call non-carbonated water. Next row has a dark and light Bavarian beer, just in front of the nice flower. I think even Bri may have been satisfied with the arrangement. Right, Bri?
  • Fussen street. Hohes Schloss in background.
  • We got up and out early to make sure that we caught the train. The very nice keepers of our hostel surprised us with very early breakfast and a ride to the train station. This gave us time to catch an espresso (and, if I remember correctly, get some bakery goods to go).
  • Between the bakery and the train. I believe that this was the child of a storekeeper. Her Mom came and unlocked the door as I was walking away.
  • And now through a different doorway, of sorts, and to the train station!
  • And through yet a different door to join Bev and Bri on the train. Notice the backpacks with straps hanging down above their heads.
  • OK, I've overused the pun about being reflective, but here you see some of the delightful meadowland as we depart Fussen.
  • Germans riding along with us on the train.
  • Here is what Germans do when they think you are photographing them on an early morning train!
  • Getting us down the rails in style.
  • German wine on Eurorail. What could be better?
  • Bev points out the interesting sights as we zoom by them on the train.
  • Untitled photo
  • Bev sights more interesting points as they zoom by us on the land (motion is all relative, right?). *!*!***Hope you are enjoying the photos to this point. Don't miss the next installment, in which you will view the spectacular German island city of Lindau on the Bodensee!*!*! Coming to a computer near you SOON!
