  • Barge on the Rhine. Of course I am ignorant about what is involved in river piloting, but to me the Rhine and the Mosel both looked awfully narrow and swift in places for barging. I would think that this is a very challenging calling. And there is LOTS of barge traffic in both directions on both rivers.
  • Probably the sites I loved seeing most were the churches and the castles. The locations of the castles were always in such picturesque and obviously defendable positions. The locations of the churches, and the fact that church steeples are consistently the tallest feature in any German (or Swiss) small village gives the feel that the whole community is "held together" by the warmth of congregation.
  • Vintage castle and vinyards
  • Statue of someone, a dead person I'll bet, as seen from the train. Hope he didn't die of too much wine from the surrounding vinyards!
  • Our Fussen Hostel was the best one we had on the whole trip. I was a bit concerned because we had only one toilet and shower to share among 7 people, but that really was never a problem. And they fixed us a wonderful spread of food for breakfast ("they" being the hosts, not the 7 upstairs guests)!
  • Wish you could join us

  • Fussen.
  • Well, no use fussin' over Fussen, at least for now. You'll see more of it later. In the NEXT album you will be treated to views of the Castles of Schwangau (including the one which Walt Disney based his fantasy castle on), just a day trip away from Fussen!
  • Miyah, this one's for you! And it's even marked on the MAP THIS feature above!<br />
