  • And, as Bev was gracing us all with the hang drum music, I decided to just let sleeping dogs (or at least this one) lie.
  • OK, rather poor quality memory shot: The lighting in the populated areas all over Big Island is specially designed in consideration of the Mauna Kea observatories. City lights are all directed downward AND are of a wavelength least likely to cause problems with the telescopic observations. By the way, straight across (as measured on Google Earth), it is about 40 miles from here to the summit of Mauna Kea. I guess that is awfully close to have light to an instrument designed to detect the faintest light from thousands of light-years away.
