  • They seemed to be coming from all over Japan to Naritasan!
  • Amazing detail in some of their carved corner dragons.
  • Ahhh. Escape from the crowds for a little while. The Naritasan grounds have such nice variety. Even on a day when the place is buzzing, you can still (relatively) get away from the crowd.
  • Walking back to the train station to return to the airport. Lots of street venders. This guy had no idea how to tell me what he was selling, but they looked like dried persimmons. I bought some, and am pretty certain they were dried persimmons. Mighty tasty at that. Bev, these were the ones I brought to Maui. Guess I won't have the chance next time, since I'll be flying through Guam.
  • I'm not sure what was in the pastries nearest you. The darker stuff on the ones further away is a sweet bean paste.
  • Very efficient operation. Notice how he uses bamboo to hold the bean paste. With them putting the two sides together, it ends up as a single pastry with the bean paste in the center. The funnel trick looks quite handy, also. And, as you can tell, I was not the only one who thought that these were worth standing in line for!
  • Sweet black beans. Surprisingly good. I also took some of these to Hawaii and shared with Bev.
  • Streets of Old Narita.
  • Honolulu airport! Gotta admit that the insignia on the Hawaiian Air Lines planes are among my favorite.
  • Honolulu from the air.
  • Honolulu and Diamond Head.
  • Looking down into Diamond Head as the plane makes a steep bank.
  • On Maui now, on our way up Haleakala. This is an endangered Haleakala Silver Sword.
