Some type of agava, or "century plant," I believe.

  • Iao Valley (pronounced EE-ow; Means "cloud supreme").
  • Iao Needle. This was considered to be the phallic stone of Kanaloa, the god of the underworld.
  • Tree hugger.
  • Bev is wading in Iao Stream. If one were to walk upstream to the end, he would be on Pu'u Kukui, which is the second wettest place in Hawaii (386 inches of rainfall per year).
  • Here in Iao State Park, the trail up to the Iao Needle parallels Iao Stream, so one can make a bit of a loop walk by taking the trail up and the stream back.
  • Heritage Garden in the park.
  • Anyone know what kind of plant this is? I thought it was interesting, but I have no idea what it is.
  • On the northwest coast of Maui.

  • Cool sculpture at a nice local gallery (at the edge of nowhere, pretty much).

  • Looking west into the sunset. Moloka'i is to your right. Lanai is barely visible in the bright part of the sunset (in the distance, left part of the photo).

  • Banyan Tree Park, in downtown Lahaina. An 8 foot tall banyan tree from India was planted here in 1873. It is now 60 feet tall, has several trunks (many trunks, all the same tree), and shades 2/3 of an acre.
  • It is one of the largest Indian banyan trees in the world.
