  • Marsha and Steve were kind enough to join me on a walk part way up the Wheeler Peak Trail. This trailhead is marked on the "Map This" feature (click on the little "i" in the circle, then click on "Map").

  • We decided that it was easier to cross IN the river than to use the bridge.

  • Anyone know what kind of flower this is? If so, please use the "Add Comment" button to your lower left and enlighten us.
  • Steve can be a bit of a shady character sometimes. A shady Cady.
  • Anyone know what kind THIS is? Please let us know.

  • Indian Paintbrush (Castilleja sp.). Also called Prairie-fire.
  • We decided to turn around where the trail crossed the East Fork of the Red River. Approximate location set on the "Map This" function, but I couldn't quite tell on the map exactly where the trail crosses the river.
  • Columbine (Aquilegia sp.)

  • Heading back down the trail toward home. Looks like it might rain.
  • We actually experienced a bit of a hailstorm before we descended all the way. Nothing big enough to be more than slightly painful, however. We also got considerable lightening and thunder. So, this kind of confuses me: In hail, it's good to get under a tree and out of the hail. In lightening, folk wisom is to avoid getting under trees. What does one do when it is significantly hailing AND lightening?
  • I wonder which choice the hummingbirds make? I would think that a large hail stone could really ruin the day of one of these guys.
  • Glen brings in the catch of the day.

    And that's speaking quite conservatively!

We (or at least I) can hardly wait! Have a great day at work. One never knows what you will come up with until one reads it......
