  • There was a sign saying that Frye's Old Town celebrated its 50th anniversary this year. I remember that it seemed like an old place when I was a kid, so I wouldn't have been surprised if it had been there longer than that. It's sort of the quintessential tourist trap / curio shop / souviner store. A couple of times per week they stage a Native American dance and old west shoot 'em up gunfight here. Stick around a bit and you can watch the festivities.
  • A Native American tribe from Taos sends some of their award-winning traditional dancers to Red River to show the customary moves.
  • One of their members pounds the drums and chants in rhythm as the dancers perform.

  • Between dances, a speaker announces the name of the dancer, the awards she or he has won, and basically what the dance signifies.
  • After the dance (and before the gunfight), families are invited to join the Native Americans and the gunfighters for family photos.
  • The gunfight is basically a mad-cap, zany affair.
  • One bad guy bites the dust. I wonder what kind of bullets they use. Something which really gets the boots into the air!

  • I'm not sure whether it's medicine or embalming fluid.....<br /> And yes, most of the actors were EXTREMELY young, as you can see from the cowboy to the left and the dance hall girls throughout the photo.
