Looking down at Valley of the Pines in the mid-morning. Mom and Dad's "cabin" is the one nearly centered vertically and slightly right of center.Of the two houses with white roofs, it is the further one, with the left portion partly blocked by trees. If you look at the two green-roofed cabins in the distance, go to the one more to your right, then come down the photo (closer), the next house you come to is the one. Spectacular setting.

  • It was fairly early AM. My lens fogged up a bit. Instead of wiping it off immediately, I decided to use it for some soft-focus effect.
  • This is an old, long abandoned, cabin in the valley. I liked the play of the shadow which the railing casts onto the wall. This shot was taken in the evening, as such shadows were lengthening.
  • Old hinge on a door frame at the old cabin. I couldn't resist the evening shadow. My original intent was to do this in B&W, but I just loved the contrast of the rusty color of the hinge and nails on the old gray, weathered wood.
  • I was told what these flowers were, but I forgot. They were heavily frequented by humming birds. On an early morning walk, I was struck by the intensity of the color of the sunlit flowers against the dark, shadowy background.
  • Mountain asters in the early morning sun.
  • Aspen leaf in the early morning sunlight. Does this photo do kind of an odd optical illusion thing for you? Seems to me like it almost turns inside out sometimes.

  • I tried and tried to get a good shot of a humming bird in mid-flight. I found it to be quite a challenge. This one and the next are probably the best two.
  • It was a challenge which pretty much matched my abilities!
