  • The Little Red School House you see in the background, now used as a museum, was built in 1915 and functioned as the education center until 1936.
  • As you can see, the "back yard" of the Little Red School House is a fascinating extension of the museum, with mine artifacts, most of which are more than 100 years old.
  • This separator wheel was suspended in a large vat containing water slurry / gold amalgam suspension. There were 2 layers of heavy canvas covering the wheel, with air blown between the layers, causing the outer layer to "balloon outward." As the wheel rotated, the gold mixture formed a coating on the external canvas. This amalgam was then scraped off the wheel by a long, fixed blade.
  • Lots of pipe used to make this separator.
  • This separator belonged to the Caribel Mine, which operated from about 1910 into the 1930's.
  • Colorful bug and rusted nut. The insect just showed up as I was shooting. I have no idea what kind it is. Colorful little buggar, though.

  • Window reflection of a window reflection.
  • The museum was closed as I walked around in the morning, so I used the time to challenge my creativity a bit. Here you see old bottles in a south-facing window.

  • Mom, Dad, and I returned later, when the museum was open.
  • About 1/4 of the museum is set up as an old school.
  • Class dismissed.....(Photo taken by my Mom).

Thanks! It's fun to capture the essence of these places, and a wonderful challenge to find the interesting contrast among the "mundane."
