Nothing like a sunrise takeoff!

  • Nothing like a sunrise takeoff!
  • Laolao Bay and golf course. Notice the brand new resort hotel on the golf course.
  • Untitled photo
  • The turtle pond at Naritasan Shinshoji Temple area. Notice that the island in the center is also the shape of a turtle.
  • Start out looking at the turtle pond / island and end up above it, as people climb the stairs to the next level.
  • On the plaza at the top of the stairs you saw in the last video is the Main Worship Hall. In the center of the plaza is the incense smoke pot. The faithful cleanse and purify themselves with the sacred smoke rising from the burning incense. It is my understanding that many Native American tribes do the same thing. I wonder how many thousands of years this ritual goes back to? In part of this video you will hear the drums calling from the Main Worship Hall.
  • I believe that this dragon, about to devour the sword he climbs on, is brand new. Ornate three-tiered pagoda in the background.
  • Music by Kevin MacLeod, incompetech.com
  • I liked the juxtaposition: A 2-dimensional relief of a calm Buddha meditating on peace with a 3-D sculpture of an energetic and active dragon about to devour an instrument of war.
  • I do like to choice in restaurants. However, I have another place in mind to eat on this trip. At least someone apparently told them, after reading the top line, to "GET THE 'L' OUT OF THERE!"
  • One of the things I find odd about Japan: There are so many places where they state general categories in English, but no specifics. Here, for instance, I can see that they have food and drink, but have no idea what food or what drinks!
  • Ahhh. Ramen Biyashi Noodle Shop. As far as I know, the best spicy red pepper noodle soup in the world. I HIGHLY recommend it.
  • The first peak of a sunrise over the Pacific Ocean. Probably somewhere near southern Alaska.
  • Approaching Portland, we were met by the majestic Three Giants. From left to right: Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helens, and Mount Adams.
  • Closer view of Mt. Rainier (background) and Mt. St. Helens. Love the valley haze. You can see the mighty Columbia River to your right, just below center.
  • Approaching PDX from the east.
  • Thanks, Meadow, for hosting us! T'was good to see y'all!
