  • I'm not sure that they have a salad large enough for Zac, however.
  • We started up the Blue Lake Trail just before it started to get dark. I was wanting to try some night photography on the lake. However, we also wanted to be over near the trail head for Cascade Pass before it got to be too late to catch at least a little sleep.
  • The trail up to Blue Lake is on a west-facing slope, so -- while it was not a spectacularly-colored sunset -- we did get the treat of seeing the sky toward the sunset.
  • On the other hand, with Blue Lake being to the west of the nearly-surrounding cliffs, a full moon (which would be in the sky that night) won't rise here until very late in the evening -- like 10:00 PM or so (Duh!). So, after getting set up and taking a few shots, I decided that to wait for the moon (so that I could get the blue colors from the water and the interesting shadows from around) would delay us too much to allow us to get any rest prior to the Cascade Pass hike. So, I cut it short without a good night shot of Blue Lake (this is as good as I got -- no color in the water because the moon was still behind the ridge you see here).
  • After the previous photo, we drove a couple of hours or so to a campground outside Marble Mount, spent a few hours trying to nap, and then drove up to the parking area for the trail head to Cascade Pass.
  • Foggy, foggy day. Can you find Zac?

  • One of MANY switchbacks on this trail. I think Tom counted them, but I lost count. How many, Tom?
  • This polyporus was already dislodged from its tree when we happened upon it.
  • Zac could not get it to attach to his head. I think this is among the largest polyporus I have seen.
  • Tom kept going straight instead of turning at one of the switchbacks, and within about 15 paces found this nice waterfall. Notice how the video starts really foggy, and then clears a bit. The fog kept teasing us like that.
  • Kept teasing us, indeed.
  • Onward and upward through the fog.
  • This is a beautiful walk, even if it chooses to reveal only its very close secrets.
  • Master Photographer and Model.
  • One of my favorite sites along this trail. I always look forward to seeing the refreshing water dripping from this moss-covered weeping rock.
  • Contemplation -- in color.
